Situation
Focus the Nation was growing and the existing Drupal content management system (CMS) began to show its limitations. The growth of their site—and their ability to communicate with their audience— became increasingly constrained by the spaghetti bowl of custom code developed within it. Realizing their efforts were futile, they turned to Crisp Code to launch a new site.
Solution
Focus the Nation knew they wanted a new content management system, but weren’t sure what they wanted it to do. Crisp Code jumped in, and wrangled Focus the Nation staff into a day-long requirements gathering session (business jargon for uncovering what they really wanted), uncovering essential requirements, user needs, and nailed-down the project scope. This process pinpointed the need for a website/application specifically tailored to Focus the Nation’s needs. We recommended Ruby-on-Rails, because of its extendability and ease of support. Our crack dev team built the new site to integrate with social media (Facebook and Twitter), opening new channels of communication between staff and supporters. The site also supports online donations, integrating with PayPal.
With the new site employees can login to a streamlined administration backend, displaying dynamic usage statistics of supporters and enables staff to manage and communicate with its outreach campaign supporters from one simple place.
This custom site combines the functionality of a content management system and a customer relationship management system which gave Focus the Nation staff to track relationships that couldn’t be stuffed into a traditional sales based CRM.
Our team “Crispified” the Focus the Nation into a beautiful solution for a truly unique organization.
